There is something about creating beautiful objects with one's own hands that leaves a profound sense of satisfaction. Little wonder, therefore that many city folks are turning to arts and crafts to relieve nerves or simply as a hobby. A well known one stop centre where one can pick up every item one would need for projects is Multifilla.

Though the shop is hidden among warehouses in Taman Industri Selesa Jaya in Balakong, it draws busloads of art students from universities and housewives who love making handicrafts.

Multifilla was started by Leong Boo Wun in 1984 to fill the niche for supplying the arts and crafts industry. The shop is crammed with a most comprehensive stock of imported craft supplies for craftsmen, studios, schools, institutes and industries.

"Crafts never bore, but always inspire and challenge one to strive for perfection," Leong reeled of his favorite quote regarding the continuous interest in arts and crafts.

"Some people tell us they can't seem to find time for crafts. But many others who pick up crafts supply simply can't make time for anything else! Whatever it is that you wish to create, chances are that you can find just about every tool and material you need here.

"Candles and soap making are among popular crafts, as these are easy to do at home using simple household utensils such as pots and pans. Candles and soap also make useful items and lovely gifts," said Leong.

His shop stocks items ranging from simple, dainty, colorful paper quills that can be used to form earrings and decorations to a wide range of craft books and videos, and even machinary, right down to very specialized woodcarving tools for professional carvers.

For those involved in batik craft, Leong has batik and crackle wax, remazol dyes, bottle and electrical tjanting, heat regulators, wax pots and liquid stencils.

Ceramic tools are aplenty, ranging from clay bodies and custom-made parts to soft soap, plaster, rollers, saddle stilts and glaze binders.

Other crafts that the shop caters for are egg craft, decoupage, etching, flower drying, jewellery making, metal casting, modeling, packaging, plaster craft, polymer clay, printing, stain glass, stenciling, weaving and basketry.

Prices are kept competitive and there is ample parking space outside. For more infomation, call Multifilla at 03-8961 3686 / 8961 3657, email mfilla@tm.net.my or visit www.multifilla.com.
