Damascus Metal
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hard to find Japanese knife metal now available.
Damascus Flat steel - 4mm X 38mm X 230mm Ref 719402. A high performance knife metal with beautiful layering of 1095 high carbon (1.274) steel and nickel steel 15N 20 used in band saw. This silvery nickel steel contrast well with the carbon steel in the 192 layers folding into a nice random pattern design. The high carbon steel ensures sharpness and edge retention. Detail heat treating instruction available with metal.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suminagashi flat steel - 3mm X 40 X 250mm Ref 719627. Finely 22 layers of suminagashi steel over a core of white paper steel and hardened to Rockwell hardness 62#RC is the small knife blank shown on the Damascus flat steel. This multi layer steel can be ground or forged and then hardened into a blade of both incredible sharpness and resilience. Metal is not rust proof. Supplied unhardened with heat treatment instructions.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Katana multi layered steel - 5.5mm X 35 X 380mm Ref 719617 white / 719618 blue. 8 layers on either side of a core of white or blue paper steel, this layering of softer steel makes the katana virtually unbreakable with excellent cutting properties. This is typical of Japanese Katana sword as layering minimize the risk of cracking during hardening. This steel can be forged further or a blade ground from this steel directly. This metal is supplied unhardened with heat treatment instructions to final hardness 62 Rockwell. Not rust proof.

White paper core - Fine grain, sharpness grade C 1.2%, SL0.004%, PL0.025%.

Blue paper core - Tougher, more wear resistant carbide and coarser grain than white paper. C 1.2%, CR 0.4%, W1.8%.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Triple layered steel - 3.5mm X 33 X 350mm Ref 719615 white / 719616 blue. Japanese triple layered steel renowned for extraordinary sharpness long edge life and excellent sharpen ability. Can be ground or forged to blade profile or as Damascus material folded supplied unhardened with hardening and tempering instructions but not rust proof.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blue paper steel - 4.5mm X 30 X 500mm Ref 719621. Tough and edge retaining. Alloyed Japanese carbon steel, martensitic due to carbide formation. More wear resistant coarser grain than white paper steel. Mono steel C 1.1% - 1.2%, SiO 1-0.2%, mn 0.2-0.3%, cr 0.2-0.5%, w 1.0-1.5%, P<0.025%, S<0.004%.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
White paper steel - 4.5mm X 30 X 500mm Ref 719620. Finest grain non alloy mono Japanese carbon steel, fine martensitic structure. Extremely sharp close to sword steel. Fine example as in Higonokawi mini pocket knifes Ref 709043 available as pictured.

C 1.1% - 1.2%, SiO 1-0.2%, P < 0.025%, S < 0.004%.
