The long awaited versatile terracotta red clay suited in firing earthernware to stoneware temperature. A variety of terracotta color in different firing temperature is shown in the sample chart under oxidation condition. Smooth and fine red clay is suitable for throwing, handbuilding and sculpture. Addition of grog or mullite for a coarse texture and thermal stability against thermal shock breakages as well in firing shrinkages reduction. Knead in by weight 10 to 20% Mullite as Raku clay as well in formulating thermal shock resistant cook wares. Addition of Mae Vit ball clay might be necessary to compensate the loss of plasticity reduced in kneading a non plastic coarser mullite
As a natural clay, its color and mineral contents may vary batch to batch. Please conduct text strip trial firing prior actual production. The fired color in various temperatures is astonishing and surprises in reduction firing. NOTE : Exercise due care in firing as red clay’s high iron content may causes slumping.
